Politics Today December 23, 2012

On this edition of "Politics Today" RCI's Wojtek Gwiazda focussed on the decreased political activity since the House of Commons went on a break a week ago until the end of January.

He also discussed a Supreme Court of Canada decision that ruled federal public sector employees could not protect the $28-billion dollar surplus in their pension plans. The money was used in the 1990s to pay down the federal deficit. Wojtek also discussed the growing discontent among Canada's indigenous people, who for the second week, demonstrated to protest what they see as the federal government's lack of respect of their sovereignty and treaty rights.
Arts-Culture #26 (Sun Dec 23, 2012) Researching music therapy and the military
(Stefano Rellandini/Reuters)
Music can bring you up, or take you down. It can excite, or calm the nerves; make you want to dance and move, or help put you to sleep.

In her previous research, Queen’s University musicologist Dr. Kip Pegley, looked into how music has sometimes been used as an acoustic weapon which is part of the research that went into a book she co-edited called. Music, Politics and Violence

That experience led her to her current research directly involving the military experience.  She has begun interviewing retired and active veterans towards understanding the why and how, the individual soldiers use music,  and plans to have recommendations for the Canadian military on how to use music in affirming ways to help rehabilitate Canadian veterans who may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I hope you’ll enjoy this conversation with Professor Kip Pegley.
