A Canadian aerospace legend re-born?
(RCAF- Dept Nat'l Defence)
One of the latest generation of fighter aircraft is the US built F-35, Joint Strike Fighter  This has been the jet chosen-but as yet not confirmed- to replace Canada’s aging fleet of CF-18 Hornets.

Now a group is proposing an all-Canadian alternative to the controversial US jet purchase.  They say Canada can create a brand new Arrow, modeled after the original but incorporating modern technology.  The new Canadian fighter would allegedly far surpass the F-35 in virtually every area of performance, including speed, ceiling, and range. It would also re-juvenate the aerospace industry in Canada, with subsequent tremendous boost to the economy. Proponents of the project also say designing and building a new “MkIII or MkIV” Arrow would be billions of dollars cheaper than the proposed F-35 over the programme lifespan,

Canadian MGen (ret) Lewis Mackenzie has become an advocate for the project. RCI’s Marc Montgomery spoke to him about the proposal.

(Peel District School Board)
Up to 20% of Canadian youth suffer from mental illness or disorders. One in ten youngsters report they have tried to commit suicide. There is growing awareness of the problem and now Canadian schools are taking initiatives to try to help. RCI’s Lynn Desjardins has more.
Senator takes on poverty and income inequality in Canada
When Canadian Senator Art Eggleton released a committee report on poverty he hoped the federal government would react. When it didn't, he went directly to Canadians to talk about poverty. When that didn't work, he started talking about inequality in Canada.

The report "In From the Margins: A Call to Action on Poverty, Housing and Homelessness" was released in December of 2009, by the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology which was chaired by Senator Eggleton.

In a conversation with RCI's Wojtek Gwiazda Senator Eggleton describes the challenges and possibilities of dealing with poverty in Canada as Canada's Parliament prepares to resume next week after the summer break.
