PM's chief of staff faces conflict of interest questions
CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld
Canada's Official Opposition Party, the New Democratic Party (NDP), is once again raising questions about conflict of interest within the government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

This time it involves the Prime Minister's chief of staff, Nigel Wright, who was lobbied twice this year by Barrick Gold, the world's largest gold producer.

RCI's Wojtek Gwiazda spoke to Member of Parliament Charlie Angus, who is the NDP's Privacy and Ethics critic.
Prison overcrowding causing violence
(Office of the Correctional Investigator 2012)
Canada’s prison population is bigger than ever and growing. Tension and violence are increasing. Guards are getting sick.

Over the past two years 1,000 new inmates have gone into federal prisons. Since no new beds have been added the Correctional Service of Canada has gone against its own policy and sometimes put two inmates to a cell.

The Correctional Investigator Howard Sapers told RCI’s Lynn Desjardins the overcrowding is not safe for inmates, not safe for staff and ultimately, not safe for Canadian society.
