This week on the program, Carmel Kilkenny and Gilda Salamone sit in for a vacationing Marc Montgomery and Lynn Desjardins, respectively, and Wojtek Gwiazda is back from his vacation with an interview with Ken Georgetti of the Canadian Labour Congress. The Labour Day holiday weekend is almost upon us and the CLC provided a little food for thought from a study that outlines the benefits unionized labour contributes to communities across Canada.

Gilda Salamone looked into some environmental news, good and bad. In the good news, we’ll hear how small cities in Ontario are leading the way in adapting to climate change, with original innovations that can reduce the salt on roads during the winter as one example. On the other hand, not so good news from the Northwest Territories this week: Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Canada’s newest national park, but critics argue the boundaries do not protect endangered species and may even accommodate mining in the middle!

Carmel Kilkenny shared the work of Rebecca Lessard and her 3 partners in a website called Roots and Recipes. The aim is to video the making of the dishes and get the secrets and the stories that have gone into some amazing meals from generations past.

And if you have any recipes, or comments and suggestions, we’d love to hear from you at English@rcinet.ca
