Faced with major labour shortages, Canada’s provinces are increasingly relying on immigrant nominee programs to bolster their workforces. Last year, the provinces selected over 38,000 workers to come to Canada under these arrangements.
McGill University fights hunger in Columbia
Potatoes are a staple for indigenous communities in Columbia, but blight is threatening the crops. Scientists from Canada's McGill University teamed up with Columbian scientists to develop a resistant potato that is also more nutritious. Canada is a world leader in the fight against hunger according to the Minister of International Cooperation. The development of a better potato is one of several projects funded by Canada. Lynn Desjardins spoke with McGill Prof. Ajjamada Kushalappa to find out more.
