Rangers Sent to Quell Violence in Karachi
On Monday, Pakistani politicians called on political parties to help bring an end to inter-ethnic clashes in the country's main port of Karachi, where over 30 people died in three days of violence. More police were deployed to quell the violence, which broke out between the city's Urdu-speaking community and ethnic Pashtuns at the weekend.

Simmering Tension in Bangkok
In Thailand, anti-government protesters prepared to end their three-month occupation of the Prime Minister's office on Monday. Supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) streamed from Government House in central Bangkok to Suvarnibhumi airport, suggesting they weremerely shifting their focus rather than giving up. Meanwhile, thousands of pro-government protesters continued to rally in the capital.

AIDS Orphans In China Are Stigmatised
Governments across the globe vowed to step up the fight against HIV/AIDS to mark the 20th World AIDS Day on Monday. On Sunday, China launched a campaign along with the UN to raise awareness about the disease. The world's most populous country has at least 800,000 HIV-positive inhabitants. Because of a contaminated blood scandal, one of the worst hit provinces is Anhui which has many AIDS orphans
